Meet the Devotional Speakers for April–July 2023

BYU-Pathway Worldwide monthly devotionals complement the student experience by fostering greater faith and discipleship in Jesus Christ. Students across the world have been inspired by these uplifting messages.

The upcoming devotionals will feature the following speakers and General Authorities and Officers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

  • April 25: BYU-Pathway President Brian K. Ashton and Sister Melinda Ashton
  • May 23: Elder Dale G. Renlund, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
  • June 13: Brother Ben Packer, BYU-Pathway Vice President of Student Success
  • July 11: Elder Arnulfo Valenzuela, General Authority Seventy

Devotionals typically last 7–10 minutes and can be viewed at 10:00 a.m. (MDT/UTC-6) on the BYU-Pathway Facebook page and later on the BYU-Pathway speeches page. Students responsible for leading the lesson in their gathering that week will facilitate a discussion around topics shared in the devotional. All participants are invited to watch, share, and discuss these inspiring messages.

About the Speakers 

President Brian K. Ashton and Sister Melinda Ashton

Brian K. Ashton is the president of BYU-Pathway Worldwide and previously served as vice president of field operations. Receiving his bachelor’s degree from BYU and MBA degree from Harvard University, President Ashton has started several companies. He served as the Second Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency from 2015–2019.

Melinda Ashton graduated from BYU and later attended medical school in Chicago. She served in the Spain Malaga Mission. Melinda and Brian are the parents of seven children. Together, they presided over the Texas Houston South Mission from 2012–2015.

Elder Dale G. Renlund

Dale G. Renlund is a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. After receiving B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Utah, Elder Renlund received further medical and research training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was a professor of medicine at the University of Utah and the medical director of the Utah Transplantation Affiliated Hospitals (UTAH) Cardiac Transplant Program. Elder Renlund and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of one daughter.

Brother Ben Packer

Ben Packer

Ben Packer is the vice president of student success for BYU-Pathway Worldwide, overseeing Mentoring, Student Services, Digital Operations, and the student experience. He previously worked as the managing director of Student Services at BYU-Idaho. He received a bachelor’s degree from BYU, a master’s from the University of Kansas, and a doctorate from the University of Arizona. He and his wife, Sara, are the parents of five children.

Elder Arnulfo Valenzuela

Arnulfo Valenzuela

Arnulfo Valenzuela serves as a General Authority Seventy and a member of the North America Central Area Presidency. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Universidad de Estudios Contables y Administrativos and an MBA from Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresa (IPADE). He previously worked as national marketing director for Durman Co. Elder Valenzuela and his wife, Silvia, are the parents of three children.
