How old must I be to participate?

  • Applicants who are 17 and 18 years old are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent to be admitted to PathwayConnect, while those ages 19+ are not required to have these credentials. Applicants younger than age 17 are not eligible for admission, except in certain international locations.

  • PathwayConnect students are not required to submit transcripts from their high school (or equivalent). If you did not complete PathwayConnect, you will need to submit your high school diploma (or equivalent).

Do I need an ecclesiastical endorsement?

PathwayConnect


  • No, PathwayConnect students do not need an ecclesiastical endorsement (worthiness interview with a bishop) to participate in the program. However, students who enroll at BYU-Idaho after PathwayConnect, either on campus or as an online student, will need to obtain an endorsement at that time.

Can people who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participate?

PathwayConnect


  • Yes, but these applicants must have a close tie to the Church, such as having a family member, friend, or other close acquaintance who is a member of the Church; actively learning about the Church; or attending church meetings. They also must meet all other PathwayConnect admission requirements.

  • Yes, applicants who are not members of the Church but are willing to abide by the CES Honor Code may enroll at BYU-Idaho. All applicants are required to submit an ecclesiastical endorsement as part of the application process.
I previously earned an Associate or Bachelor's Degree. Can I still enroll?

PathwayConnect


  • Yes. While PathwayConnect is primarily designed to help students with little or no previous college or university experience, admission is open to any member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or to persons who are not members but have a close tie to the Church.

  • Associate Degree Most associate degrees will transfer to BYU-Idaho; however, not all may count toward certain bachelor’s degree programs. Previous credits will be evaluated after a student has been admitted to a degree program and submits previous college transcripts. Students will be notified once credits have been evaluated and may contact Online Advising at onlineadvising@byui.edu for help with planning their classes. Students who already have an associate degree from another institution are typically not advised to obtain another associate degree through BYU-Idaho.

  • Bachelor's Degree Yes, students who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree can enroll in an online-degree program and receive a second degree (this option is not available to students who attend BYU-Idaho on campus). It is recommended that students complete 30 new credits. Typically, general education courses will be waived and only core courses and religion credits will be required.
How/where can I find my membership record number (MRN)?
Your MRN can be found on your temple recommend, individual ordinance summary, or through a ward clerk or other Church leaders.
When will I know if I'm admitted?

PathwayConnect


  • Many students receive an instant admissions decision as part of the application process. Other students may have to complete additional tasks before being admitted and will receive an email when an admissions decision has been made.

  • A few weeks after applying to BYU-Idaho, students will receive an email with a link to view their admissions decision. There, they can accept or decline the offer. If students do not receive an email, they may sign in to CES Application to view the application progress and, if available, accept or decline their offer.
I missed the application deadline. Can I still be admitted?
Applicants who miss the application deadline will need to wait until the next available start date. To find out the next time courses begin, visit our Admissions page.

Rare exceptions to the application deadline are made for full-time missionaries who return home after a deadline has passed and for other similar extenuating circumstances. Applicants who want to be considered for a special exception must submit a request .
After I complete PathwayConnect, am I automatically enrolled in an online degree program?
No, PathwayConnect students must submit a formal application to begin an online degree program. For more information about applying, visit the Application Process page or apply.churchofjesuschrist.org.
What are the requirements for PathwayConnect students who want to pursue an online degree or certificate after PathwayConnect?
PathwayConnect students are eligible to apply to an online degree program during their third and final semester of PathwayConnect. Students who desire to start a degree program after PathwayConnect must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Complete PathwayConnect with a minimum “B” average (3.0 cumulative GPA) for PC 101/101L, PC 102/102L, and PC 103/103L.
  • Obtain an ecclesiastical endorsement from their bishop and stake president.
  • Commit to live the CES Honor Code.

My PathwayConnect program GPA isn't high enough to get into an online degree program. What are my options?
Students must achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA in PC101/101L, PC102/102L, and PC103/103L. For students whose PathwayConnect program GPA isn’t high enough to get in to an online degree program may choose to retake one or more of their PathwayConnect academic courses in an effort to raise their GPA. Students can also consider applying to local colleges, universities, and technical schools.
Do I have to enroll in PathwayConnect if I already have an associate degree, or can I start an online degree program instead?

How do I accept my offer of admission to an online degree program?

Can I apply to attend BYU-Idaho on campus?
Of course! However, students who attend BYU-Idaho on campus pay the full campus tuition rate and may be required to submit additional application materials, including:

  • Essays
  • TOEFL English proficiency assessment (for non-native English speakers)

We recommend that students from outside of the United States review requirements for international students . PathwayConnect students interested in applying to come to campus should contact BYU-Idaho Admissions for details.
Course Registration
How do I register for courses?

PathwayConnect


  • Students entering their first semester of PathwayConnect are automatically registered for their courses when they accept their offer of admission. Students entering their second and third semesters register for their courses by signing in at byupathway.org . During the course registration period each semester, students will see an item in their "To Do" list prompting them to enroll in next semester's courses. Students can click the link and follow the directions provided.

  • After students have been admitted to the online degree program, and once any previous college transcripts have been evaluated, they may contact BYU-Pathway Support for help with planning their classes.
Which course(s) do I take?
Students can sign in at byupathway.org and view their current courses and see which courses they will take in the future.
What is the deadline to register for courses?
The deadline for a student to register for next semester's courses is 21 days before the first day of classes.
What happens if I miss the deadline to register for courses?

PathwayConnect


  • Students who miss the course registration deadline will not be able to participate in PathwayConnect during the upcoming semester. They may, however, rejoin PathwayConnect in a future semester. Students in this situation should contact BYU-Pathway Support to discuss options.

  • If a student misses their designated registration time, they may still register for classes but risk less availability of class selection. Students can add classes to their schedules through the first week of the semester.
English Language Assessment
What is the English Language Assessment included in the PathwayConnect application?
The English Language Assessment measures an applicant's English skill level. Because PathwayConnect courses are entirely in English, applicants must achieve an intermediate-mid English level before participating in PathwayConnect. Applicants who need to take the evaluation are identified during the PathwayConnect application process. Applicants take the evaluation as part of the application.

A student's assessment determines if he or she may join PathwayConnect.
Why do I have to take an English Language Assessment?
Because PathwayConnect's courses are entirely in English, some applicants are required to take an English Language Assessment. This will help identify their English skill level and ability to succeed in PathwayConnect.
Can I take the English Language Assessment more than once?
Yes, but applicants may only take the assessment once every 60 days.
I didn't score high enough to join PathwayConnect. Can I retake the English Language Assessment at a later date?
Yes, applicants who didn’t score high enough to be admitted to PathwayConnect may retake the assessment once every 60 days.

Do I have to start all over if I cannot attend a semester of PathwayConnect?
No, students keep all credits they obtain from completed PathwayConnect courses. Students who take one or more semesters off will need to reapply when they decide to rejoin PathwayConnect. Students in this situation should contact BYU-Pathway Support for additional information and details.

Transferring Credits
Will my previously earned credits transfer to BYU-Idaho and count toward a degree?
Possibly. Transfer credits from other schools or universities depend on a variety of factors. For more information about transfer credit, visit www.byui.edu/transfer-evaluation .
Will my PathwayConnect and institute course credits transfer to BYU-Idaho? Will they transfer to other colleges and universities?
BYU-Idaho
  • Yes, PathwayConnect credits will transfer directly to BYU-Idaho. PathwayConnect religion courses fall under the regular “Transfer of Religion Credit from CES Institutes of Religion and LDS Church Schools” policy . If students have questions about the transferability of their institute credits, they should talk with their institute director. Students are also responsible for requesting that their local institutes send institute transcripts to BYU-Idaho.

Other Colleges & Universities
  • Each institution evaluates credits differently and accepts or rejects them according to their guidelines and policies. Students should contact each school they are considering and ask for more information about transferring course credits.
